Admit it, Your’e Afraid

Aren’t we all a little afraid

of admitting the truth?

Maybe we have no idea why we are doing what we are doing.

Maybe we should have said what was on our mind.

Maybe the second option should have been our first.

Maybe we should start over.

Maybe tomorrow won’t be the way we pictured it to be.

We think about it all the time.

All this stuff.

And it keeps us awake.

It makes us spend hours trying to gaze into the future.

Trying to make sense of the uncertainty.

Trying to eliminate the risk.

Trying to draw up a plan of some kind.

Trying to make a list of rules to follow.

Trying to come up with a formula to succeed.

And then, all of a sudden,

We feel at ease.

Because we think that we’ve cracked that secret code.

The one that can set things right.

The one that is the key to that door that we’ve

been trying to open for what seems like forever.

The one that we think is perfect in every way.

But maybe we’re wrong.

Because things might take a totally different turn.

Life as always has other plans.

Then what?

Was making that plan a waste of time?

Or were those questions that we asked ourselves a lie?

What then, is the best way to live?

I have no idea, I have to admit.

I am a little afraid.

And that is the truth.

But then, aren’t we all?

But what if we follow our heart in the end?

Maybe we could fly.

And yes it’s true, we could fall.

But it’s the possibility that we need to look at.

And win against all the doubts.

Walk ahead.

Be brave enough to make that choice.

Speak your mind.

Move to a new city.

Embrace the flawed decisions that you may have made.

Because no matter what,

It’s never too late

And remember,

we’re all a little afraid.

The Fire of Fear

Yes of course I am afraid-

Of the silence that fills me up at night

Of not knowing what to do next

Of thinking about how to make things right

Of not being able to succeed

Of the countless desires in my mind

Of trying too hard to change the world

Of all the obstacles that I may find

Of holding on for too long

Of making too many memories

Of letting go as I move on

Of the not so happy endings to stories

Of falling in love too soon

Of not being able to decide

Of always having to be okay

Of knowing secrets that I must hide

Who says that I am any different?

Yes of course I am afraid

But in the end all that matters is

Being proud of the choices that I have made….

Short Story

Are You Ready?

Just like every single morning, he woke up early and went for fishing with his dad. After walking for a few miles, they finally reached the riverside and sat at their favorite spot.

It was a beautiful sight – crystal clear water flowing effortlessly and carrying along with it little creatures of all colors ; golden , black and white.

This was the time when both father and son chatted about everything they wanted to.

“Dad. Everyone says that life is not easy. That we have to be prepared to face stuff. I’m scared. How will I know that I am ready?”

“That’s a great question son.”, he replied. ” Its easy. Do you see those fish swimming happily in the water?, he asked.

“Yes.”, he replied.

” Now pick up a stone and throw it inside.”.

The boy did as he was told. Immediately, the fish moved away and scattered in different directions.

He didn’t understand.

The next day, he did the same, but nothing changed. He kept repeating this for the next few days, his mind puzzled.

After a week, something unusual happened. As soon as he threw the stone into the river, the fish didn’t move away. Instead, they remained still till it sank to the bottom.

“They aren’t afraid anymore!”, exclaimed the boy.

“Exactly son. Initially they were afraid just like you are. But when they decided to face their fear, they were able to move past it. The day you can do the same, you will be ready.”

The boy smiled. He finally knew what he had to do.

Life is full of obstacles. Don’t let them stop you.

Let go of fear. Accept the challenge. Decide to face it . Decide to win.
