Underneath the Layers

Wrapped within layers,
He lay on the ground
With his hand over his heart,
Listening to its sound

Trying to uncover himself,
Removing each layer one by one
To discover who he was,
And where it had all begun

He saw a little boy,
With an innocent gaze
Afraid to move ahead,
Lost in a maze

Then came a young man,
Dressed in a suit and tie
He had all that he had ever wanted,
But he wondered why

Next came a father,
Holding his son’s hand
Teaching him how to walk,
How to stand

And then there he was,
Lying on the ground
Flooded by memories,
That each layer was wrapped around

Realizing how he had changed,
From just a little boy
To a man
Who had now aged…
